You won't get a dime from the big company from simply 'making them aware' of the patent.

If this is as big a deal as you think it is, contact the patent owner to discuss licensing in non-medical applications. If you come across as serious, you may be able to get a deal, where you split revenue. Hopefully, you won't have any (or too much) upfront costs.

If you have a good lawyer, you may then be able to use your exclusive license for the patent to begin building a product at the same time you're in discussion with Black and Decker. They'll take you a lot more seriously if they see you have the option of going on your own or selling the product to a competitor.

Valuations are SUPPOSED to be in line with investor pipe dreams.

Most companies are valued primarily on profit expectations in the future, also known as a discounted cash flow.

The concept of using assets to value tech companies is also laughable. I doubt Google or Microsoft has very many 'assets' in relation to the overall value of the company. Assets can be important for manufacturing companies, or John Deere, not for Facebook.

Could Facebook be overvalued? Sure, but there are credible paths that could be taken in the near future to have it generate significantly more money.
