I used to be stuck in the rock and roll rut but have since jumped into the electronic scene over the past few years. A good place to start is the classic French electronic bands: Daft Punk, Justice, Air, and Vitalic all have roots in France. Justice's label Ed Banger Records based in Paris has a lot of other great artists signed to it: Mr. Oizo, Feadz, and Zongamin are good ones. A number of electronic bands have become quite popular lately, a lot of synthpop in particular. New albums out this year by: Neon Indian, Passion Pit, Starfucker, Miike Snow, Dan Deacon, Junior Boys, YACHT, Discovery, The Field, and Fever Ray. I'd also recommend looking into remixes and mash-ups on The Hype Machine.
