Fellow Ottents, I was wondering if you could tell me if I had a run in with an undercover cop or not. by Stoitein entOttawa

I've seen people get busted dealing at bus stops, by undercover cops who look homeless.

Wild. Good points.

Great. That's your prerogative, and its what gentlemen's leagues are for. But its not the game that's played in the NHL, nor is it the game that is played at the semi-pro and junior levels. Roughness of the variety demonstrated in this gif IS part of that game, as it always has been. Its what separates the boys from the men, and that's just the way I like it.

Ask the players how they feel about that mentality. Its part of the sport; always has been, and it always will be. You've clearly never played a competitive contact sport, and felt the adrenaline and emotion that fuels athletes to compete at that level. Frankly I don't understand how you could call yourself a fan and not understand that.

Hockey's rough. Take your pussification elsewhere, because its not changing any time soon.

You're wrong. It is cutting it, period. Look at those punches. They're barely even punches. That wouldn't, and didn't injure anything. 2 minute minor for roughing is the right call, and the only call.

Stop being a drama queen. If this looks too violent to you, pick a new sport, because this kind of shit happens every fucking game.

...And if 2 enormous fucking dudes bare knuckle brawling while planted on the ground with 0 protective equipment = ejected from game, I'd say a couple gloved fluffers to padded shoulders and a helmeted head = 2 minute penalty.

...Not at all the same as what "headshot" typically refers to. A jab to the head doesn't generate nearly the impact of a body check to the head. To suggest that this was a suspendable incident is ridiculous.

Visual clutter and how to avoid it in CS:GO by wArchiin GlobalOffensive

If you use the word "reality" at any point while arguing about the direction CS:GO should take, you're most likely wrong.

Probably just some curious dude. Undercover cops, to my knowledge, don't typically chill at bus stops waiting to overhear juicy crime leads. Besides, your username is all but impossible to match up with you, so I seriously wouldn't worry about it.

BTW, that was me that mentioned it. ...and there's a reddit for that. http://www.reddit.com/r/silkroad/

Hrm... I'll concede defeat, on technicality, but those are weak ass puns. In both cases, the alternate definition is a metaphorical reach of the primary definition, devoid of the typically stark contrast in meanings that makes puns worthwhile.

That lamp... have the 2 screws mounting the actual lamp head to the pivoty-rod thing come loose on you yet?

That's not exploiting different possible meanings. Its the same meanings for both "pressure" and "shining", though both are used in a metaphorical sense when applied to Holtby's performance. Same meanings. Not puns.

Your example too, is a poor example of a pun, though that one's closer. There, you're employing a bit of clever wordplay and applying an apt cliche.

You clearly don't know what a pun is. Google it.

No. There is no pun here.

I'm not even remotely impressed by astrophysics. Of course this means I'm ignorant.

Ignorance is characterized by a lack of knowledge. Stupidity is characterized by an inability to anticipate inevitable ignorance.

Don't see that kind of agility in hockey? I'm sorry, but you clearly don't watch hockey and you probably have never had skates on your feet.

...Just a few from the top of my head, and all happening at much faster speeds than are seen in any other pro sport.

And that's without even TOUCHING the agility displayed by NHL goaltenders.

I was born and raised in Fort McMurray, Alberta. I have always noticed the attitude you are referring to in those who moved to AB for work, and who as a result of that decision, have had their standard of living increase dramatically. In my experience, that attitude is distinct from the attitude of those who have been permanent residents for 30+ years, those who regard Fort McMurray as their home. Transient and migrant population aside, I can truthfully say I've observed no such elitist attitudes from Albertans. Perhaps your experiences are different, but we all view the world through a different coloured lens.

Now, admittedly, at 25 years old I'm probably too young to have been exposed to Albertan separatism as it may have existed in the 80s, though I'm not surprised to hear that it was suggested. I can say, however, that any remaining separatist sentiment hasn't been echoed loudly enough to deserve anything more than a Wikipedia stub since the early 90s.

Meanwhile, I now live in Ottawa, where I've only recently come to understand the notion of "Western alienation" which my high school social studies teacher often made reference to. Western Canada doesn't exist out here. My point is, we're all a little regionally self-absorbed, and beyond that, this idea of a "high and mighty Albertan" is wholly overblown.

Edit:

Case and point.

...Case in point*

I don't follow football, and I used to skateboard, but I just don't know what to say if you can't appreciate the athleticism in that clip, and the sport in general.

Different strokes, or whatever.

Gotcha. So, to recap:

Football = fake sport

Dude front flipping down stairs and landing on a skateboard = real sport.

Carry on.

If you found that underwhelming, then yes, sports are probably not for you.
