Most of the English Media has only presented the Charest government side of the Quebec tuition debate or a very abbreviated picture of the student's side. Here is a recently translated document from IRIS recherche that presents a detailed counter argument to the Government's official line [pdf] by Erinaceousin canada

FYI, there is no such thing as "Black bloq anarchists" It is not a group but a series of tactics, of which property destruction at rallys hasn't been considered a viable tactics for some time.

Should higher education be free? by bnxiin canada

[–]subvertc 1 point2 points ago

Because education, at all levels is not a business, the pseudo science of economics should not be applied to education.

An educated population is beneficial to all Canadians.

Despite chagrin from some, education, like most social programs, are meant to operate at a monetary "loss".

Think you are confusing Capitalism and Mutualism.

Students in Quebec were asked to send the cops the route of their march. Here's what they replied with. by PunPuncherin funny

This is one of the most propagated myths of the strike. The fundamental flaw of this myth is its failure to analyze why Quebec fees are so low. The freeze in tuition fees, along with many other victories, are the result of mass mobilization on behalf of the student movement. A ten-year freeze was won in 1996 through a student strike in Quebec, and an attempt to convert student bursaries into loans in 2005 was stopped the same way. Students in English-speaking Canada have long been able to point to the Quebec model of accessibility where students graduate with a debt a fraction the size of those in other provinces. The erosion of Quebec students’ right to education will hurt our ability to demonstrate that alternatives are possible.

Quebec is trampling basic human rights to quash student protests by koavfin worldnews

On May 16th, there are 155 005 students actively boycotting. There is an additional 200,000 students who are still attending class, or a diminished schedule, and support the strike. 164 student associations/unions support the strike.

There are 460,000 post-secondary students total in Quebec.

And since Bill 78 passed, these numbers have swelled.

The future of Liberals & Occupy: a waste of our time. by anonnomin Anarchism

My local Occupy has transformed into an anarcho/anti-cap collective.

The liberals stopped participating once media spotlight was diminished (pretty easy as we are a small city in Canada)

It has been an anti-austerity protest more than about tuition for weeks now.

Having been at the manif's for over a month and a half, I can say that every time I've been at a manif that has gone "violent" (vandalism isn't violence), it was in response to police triggering violence, most often with a sudden, aggressive take-down of protesters.

Please check CUTV, they have thousands of hours of unedited, raw footage of the manif's, and you can easily confirm what I said by watching some of the streams.

Hundreds arrested in Canada student protests: Protests have raged in Quebec since mid-February over a provincial plan to raise tuition fees at universities. by davidreiss666in canada

The manif's have been about Quebec corruption for weeks now. It as not hard to make the connection between high-paid administrators (a glut of the cost of university), corporate tax cuts which made the province broke, and the corrupt government.

That was reported by the media with zero evidence and against the eye witness statements of several who were there.
