Displaced Montrealer here. Was thinking of doing this as my next trip. I couldn't make it through your video, though, because I feel as though I want to see it fresh for myself. Definitely an amazing intro and I'm super excited to make this happen!

They block a second hockey team. They block Ottawa Yankees. Toronto oughta check itself.

I think it's about time people consider other options besides driving. Scotia Bank Place is so outrageously far that there aren't any other options for getting out there, but this doesn't have to be the case for the Glebe. Light-rail, subway, biking, bus, whatever---it's not brain surgery people.

Had to say. I ran your profile in my Ottawan response generator and I got back this: "where are you from?"

I don't think I've ever seen an /r/Ottawa get so much action.

Haven't read the whole thread, but I'll just add a couple things that may result in a bunch of down votes. I've been here for five years, but I consider myself more of a displaced Montrealer than an Ottawan. Ottawa has some nice things about it, but compared to our bigger cities - montreal, toronto, vancouver - Ottawa is very very lame. Yes there is stuff to do (I saw some nice links apt613.ca etc), but there isn't action every night of the week, nor is there the diversity you are probably used to. I have a feeling Vancouver may be a more interesting choice.

Just saying...you won't be in Kansas anymore...

Personally, I like Ottawa because I don't suffer from a long commute, biking (and outdoor sports in general) is great here, we get some good music because we're between montreal and toronto, and honestly because it's really close to those cities when I want to have some fun. Also - a lot of people aren't that cultured, but they are super friendly here and for the most part not ignorant. So, the good outweighs the bad, normally.

Anyway, these are my two cents.

PS: you also may want to look at canada's new pot laws. A lot will be changing in the near future.

I feel that not enough Canadians know about Chris Myden's cheap ticket blogs by scott12087in travel

[–]timbuktwo 1 point2 points ago

Actually from time to time he'll post tix from the US. For example, my ticket to boston is 400 bucks cheaper from Massena than from Ottawa.

EDIT: granted I didn't get that tip from his blog. It is a great blog, though. Highly recommended.

But I think what this guy is suggesting is that Margarita island is probably a good place for couples. I've never been there, but I do know when the woman and I were considering cheap all inclusives this island came up a few times.

My brother did a similar thing last year after he dumped his woman and went to Buenos Aires and all around Argentina. He definately had some great stories when he came back.

Young anglophone couple, looking to live/work in Montreal and learn French. Help and advice appreciated. by IndividualNo6in montreal

[–]timbuktwo 0 points1 point ago

You could find some manual labour jobs. Just might be tough if you want to live downtown and not have a long commute.

Montreal is bipolar, but not impossible to deal with if your willing to learn French.
