I make a roast beef sandwich with slices of avocado and spicy mustard. You have to have all the toppings too. Lettuce, tomato, salt, pepper, oil vinegar, the whole nine yards.

I didn't have much trouble with Thermo, but that course does leave a lot of bodies. Maybe because nobody shows up to lecture, and nearly no one does the homework.

Clark was teaching it when I took it and he was phenomenal. Avoid Dr. Tree if possible. He is a great guy, but not too great at teaching 200.

An NFL math question. by tsiegel22in math

The NFL schedule complicates this matter further. Here is a skeleton schedule for each team;

  • You play each divisional team twice (4 team divisions, 6 games total)
  • You play each team in another division in your conference (4 games)
  • You play each team in a division of the other conference (4 games)
  • You play the teams who had equal finishes in their division in your conference last year. For example, last year Indianapolis, New England, Pittsburgh, and Kansas City came in first in their divisions, so they will play each other this year. That makes up the remaining two games.

Therefore, you would need to spread your team purchases throughout the divisions in both conferences in order to ensure that you have access to all of the games. I suspect that you would need to buy at least 3 teams from each division to ensure that you would get all of the matchups (since buying two teams from each division will ensure that you miss the interdivision matches between the teams you don't have). My guess would be that the minimum would be 24 teams then.

[EDIT] Actually, the more I think about it. You need to buy all 4 teams in at least half of the divisions, since the cross divisional play requires playing all of the teams in the opposing division. Therefore, if you are missing a team in each division you will miss their game with each other. That makes the minimum 28 teams to ensure that you catch each match.

I want to record my lectures this year. What type of camera should I use? by lemniscactusin math

I'd recommend taking some cues from the MIT lectures online. First, a microphone is key. Whatever microphone that camera has built in is going to be awful, especially when it is far enough away to see a significant portion of the board. If anything, I'd skimp on the camera a little bit and just write with the big sidewalk chalk (like they do in the MIT lectures) or if your university is a whiteboard kind of place get a big marker in a good contrasting color like blue or black. Take the money you save on a camera and get an external microphone that you can clip to your shirt.

Programming is logic. You explain your logic to the computer, and it does all the boring stuff for you.

From an environmental standpoint, is it better to use (recycled) plasticware/disposable utensils, cups and plates, or wash dishes by hand? by spacedadin askscience

[–]treelurker 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It takes about 24 gallons of water to make a pound of plastic. So it really depends on how much you are using to wash versus the amount of waste you produce.

Edit; If water waste is all you care about.

I found Haupt's Practical Genetic Algorithms to be extremely informative when I was doing some GA work in graduate school. Very approachable with tons of great information. I would be shocked if it isn't in your school's math or engineering library.
