My wife and I were walking our dog in Vancouver when this short, stocky woman wearing camo shorts and a buzzcut comes storming around the corner. She stops, looks at me, then looks at my wife, and yells, "WHAT!? Everybody gets a CUNT except for ME?" Without waiting for a response, she stomps past us, and that was that.

I work with at-risk children (2-6) and have a hard time getting men to volunteer. Many say they are afraid to work unsupervised with children because they worry others will think it's inappropriate. Men, does this cross your mind? by janearcadein AskReddit

I worked as a swimming instructor for a few years, and it's something you're thinking about non-stop. When you pick up a kid to put them on the edge of the pool, you're holding them way out from your body, hands under their arms, angled so that parents watching can see exactly what you're doing. If you're a good instructor, the kids start to like you and try to hug you, or jump on you, and you extricate yourself from that SO fast, even though it's a totally innocent situation. Admittedly, the risk is out there (nothing attracts weirdos like a public pool), so I think it's appropriate, but it sucks that it has to be that way and makes teaching swimming lessons really stressful if you're a guy. The best thing you can do to make it more comfortable is just address it head on, let them know what equals a risky situation, and how to avoid putting themselves in a potentially bad position. Nothing will prevent guys from feeling paranoid about it though.

Haha. I just moved here from Vancouver a few months ago. It's a shock, to say the least. We miss Vancouver a lot.

I actually agree, but what can you do... It was taken at 7:30am this morning with an iphone, picking up reflected headlights and streetlights. Luckily there seem to be some corroborating accounts of the truck, seen on the very same street on which the picture was taken. What else can I say?

Canadian couple wins $11.2 million jackpot and gives away the entire thing. by fishy007in worldnews

The prizes are essentially taxed before they are announced and given away. Gambling in Canada is all run by the government: "Today, Canada has two nation-wide lotteries: Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Max (the latter replaced Lotto Super 7 in September 2009). These games are administered by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation, which is a consortium of the five regional lottery commissions, all of which are owned by their respective provincial and territorial governments... ...Primar[il]y, 48% of the total sales are used for jackpot, with the remaining 52% used for administration and sponsorship of hospitals and other local causes." -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lottery#Canada

You'll also never ever see a jackpot higher than $50 million, unlike in the US where you'll see hundreds of milions of dollars given away.

While working as a lifeguard at a pool with a bustling cardiac rehab program (ie. exercise for people who have already had at least one heart attack). Guy had a jammer in the changeroom. We got the AED on, but there was nothing (ie. no electrical activity at all in the heart) to shock. It was weird. In the heat of the moment, it was no big thing, but once the adrenaline was gone, it shook me for a few days.

Mt. Cain on Vancouver Island. 20cm of crisp, fresh powder. Untouched backcountry run. Blue sky. Snow was so perfect and smooth, it almost felt like I was gliding on water. Now I feel like a junkie, where every trip to a mountain is trying to recreate that feeling of absolute contentment that I felt after the initial frenetic rush had subsided, and before the disappointment at the end of the run began.
