The world needs more churches converted into bookstores by wolffmlin atheism

In my imagination, it's more of a social center. Not much larger than your ordinary town church.

A lot of what you spoke of could be taken care of by volunteers, just like a church. If it were classified as a "religion" then it would be tax-exempt, and of course it would accept donations.

There oughtn't be a need to pay speakers, it would be community organized and community run. I know a 28-year-old with an MA in Philosophy who's working the Genius bar at Apple who would gladly speak for an hour to even a meager audience about almost anything he might have some authority in. That's what I'm talking about.

"All the student-life type activities" my foot. I'm not talking about dorming, I'm not talking about clubs within clubs or anything of the kind.

Really, it's more like a library that encourages more discussion, social activity, outreach.

If Alain De Boton's "atheist religion"'s main mission was to do things like this, then I'm 100% for it.

Preserve the artistry and inarguable magnificence of some of Europe's great cathedrals; but instead of pews, bookshelves; instead of kneeling, a comfy bench. Schedule regular lectures from local professors, scientists, philosophers, social/civic activists, leaders and teachers. Instead of a confessional, a consilium (Latin for advice/counsel), for non-judgmental and objective advice from a well-vetted and sagely individual.

Everything would be free, there would be no membership, no tithing, no obligation, no responsibility beyond behaving respectfully and intelligently.

Yeah I would have taken it off, but it was a little chilly in the pop-up store I was in, and I didn't want to stay long. Wearing it was a not-so-subtle signal to my date that I was bored.

I like it. Do you mean orange and purple ties as well, or finding some place for those colors, like a handkerchief or something.

You think a black coat would have worked better?

That man is truly awesome, so I take that as a tremendous compliment, thank you. "What do we say to the God of Death?" NOT TODAY!

Her name is Layla. She was being walked by five buff dudes in West Hollywood. I was tempted to grab her and run, but if I tried, I probably would have ended up on the 7 o'clock news.

I think the tie might be 3/4" too long and the pants need a little hemming. It's all pretty bargain stuff. The blazer is H&M. The trench and shirt are from Martin+Osa. The pants are J.Crew. The shoes are Bespoken oxfords. The tie is the only luxury item, but it was a gift from an aunt in Paris.

I'm going to go with reflection+perspective. My hands are approximately identically sized. Being of smaller stature, however, my hands would never be confused with large ones.

Bad lighting, iPhone 4 camera, auto-Picasa touch-up fail. I'm maybe a shade or two darker than the average whitey redditor, but that's just living in Southern California the past year.

Yeah, those are the only item I'm considering purchasing. I'm not sure about the brown though. Grey, white and blue all have their appeal. I do need a pair of sockless-able boat shoes for the summer.

That's the one. I think the medium is a 38 or 40 and the large is a 44 or 46

I agree. They tie their ties in a four-in-hand and I didn't feel too inclined to tie a windsor for a tie that felt starchy and didn't look great to begin with. I imagine it was cotton and just needed to go through a wash.

Yeah I agree. The herringbone was a better fit. I texted a friend the picture with the red tie and he said I should infiltrate a Republican call center in that get-up. Operation Crimson Chaos he called it.

I think a gun-metal wool grey would probably fit best.
