I live in Scandinavia and are married to a Russian girl. Immigration law is very strict here and we had to move to another country in february 2011 to apply as EU citizens. I was was just told on december 23 that our application has been approved after waiting 5 months:-)

I would prefer having my name on it, because I need it as proof later for the Danish Immigration authorities. If they can find ANY little thing about my wife and I not living in Sweden, they'll refuse her application. So a Swedish phone number in my name and one for her is needed (besides actually needing a phone here).

I got a Swedish personnummer now, so I would prefer to order a prepaid SIM-card in my name online. Then put money on it via an Internet account when needed.

I was also at Plantagen yesterday and they had 2 kinds of citrus plants. Ikea in the same area had a coconout palm, which I liked.

Yes. I was thinking of using skype at home, but they are only cheap when calling landline phones in Denmark. Calling a mobile phone is about 1,75 kr/min.

I got a job in a new city and had to work between christmas and new year. I was home with my family at christmas, but today I am alone. It will take 5 hours each way and $120 for the travelling. But I got a hot girlfriend this year and she comes to live with me in 3-4 weeks when the visa is ready.

I checked out DHL and UPS. DHL can do it in 2 days for about 2000 rubels.

It is a visa application with passport, signature, etc. So unfortunately it has to be mailed.

I want to be with my gf, but immigration demands that I deposit $10.000 for her stay. When we are married, the deposit is no longer needed. The only way that the money will be lost is if she breaks the visa rules (stays in the country illegally after it expires). But she will have permanent residence then granted by EU rules. So my wish would be a 6 month loan.

That is our plan too. She can come and stay for 3 months the first time. If we decide to get serious, then we take it from there. My country is very strict about immigration even if married, but they must adhere to EU regulation. Simply put. She will not get permanent residence by applying in my country. I have to live in another country for a few weeks where the rules are different. Then she can move to me and we apply to my country. This will take about 2 months in all. Not easy, but doable.

The type of visa she needs is a Schengen visa. She gets an invitation from me and the visa will be granted pretty much automatically. She visits me as a girlfriend and not as a wife because we are not married. Good to hear your experiences.

I am not American. But my country's embassy has a similar rule. They must see her either when applying or when picking up the visa. Her flights to my country connects in Moscow, so she would be there anyway when she is coming to me.

All questions regarding visas are referred to a private company. These are Visa Application Centres. They have a phone number and an email. I cannot get through on the phone. It is either picked up and put on the desk so I can hear them talking, or picked up and put down again. I asked via email and it was a one sentence response: "You should find somebody by yourself."

We have met twice at her place. Last time, we lived together 3 weeks. Unfortunately there is a lot of paper work and it all has to be done correctly. So we were simply not prepared at that time. Else I could have done it for her.
